Repair Your / My Credit
If you're suffering from
poor credit scores, do not fret, it is never too late to
repair your credit rating. A good place to start
is by doing a thorough analysis of your credit report.
This report is a record of your credit history and
provides potential lenders and creditors an indication
of your financial stability and your credit-worthiness.Credit bureaus or agencies
collate information that makes up this report and you
can easily request for a copy of your personal report
from them. From this report, your credit score or rating
is tallied and this score acts as a measurement of your
likelihood to keep up with loan payments.
Set aside some time to study
your detailed report carefully. You want to make sure
that all the information recorded is accurate and that
accounts specified on it belong to you. If there are
items that you believe to be false or incorrect and
accounts or debts incurred that do not belong to you
then you must contest those items and ask for proof and
verification from the bureau that collected your
information. If no proof can be provided, then you have
every right to ask for those items in question to be
corrected or removed from your records. Eliminating any
of such negative accounts from your credit report will
move your score up the list immediately.
Accounts that are overdue
will also be reflected on your report. Because this is a
record of your credit history, accounts past and present
will both be detailed. Remember, however, that the more
recent accounts carry more significance to lending
institutions and creditors and should therefore be paid
off first. Improving on your credit rating can also be
carried out by diligently keeping your credit balances
to less than 40% of your credit limit. The rule of thumb
here is to keep the gap between your balance and your
credit limit as wide as possible.
Raising your rating takes
time, hard work and the discipline to resist the
temptation of holding out on paying your bills and
staying in debt. All it takes is to cultivate a few
simple habits in your effort to
repair your
credit and you should be seeing results in a few
months.
