Fix My Credit
Before you can begin to fix
your credit score, you should first equip yourself with
basic knowledge about matters pertaining to your
financial health and credit rating. A credit report
records the details of your credit history and gives
potential lending institutions and creditors a
measurement of the risk they would take if they offered
you a home loan, for example. With your credit history
carefully detailed in these reports, it would pay for
you to obtain a copy of one yourself. This can easily be
done through credit bureaus or agencies. Once you've got
a copy of your own report on hand, you should take the
time to study its details for a couple of reasons. One,
to understand what goes into a report and two, to check
for any inaccuracies or errors in the information
presented.
The main objective of trying
to fix your credit report is to eliminate as much of the
negative components as possible while trying to build up
and add to the positive ones. Negative components
include debts that you still owe and loans that you have
defaulted on, for example.
Knowing what constitutes a
good score and what makes a bad one will help you gauge
your own credit standing. A good credit rating lies in
the region of 680 and above and will class you as a
"prime borrower" amongst creditors and lending
institutions. This means that these companies will look
favorably upon "prime borrowers" and tend to offer them
low interest rates on their loans. People with a rating
under 560 on the other hand are considered "high risk"
individuals and likely to be charged with high interest
rates and may even be requested to place a security
deposit on loans taken up. These "high risk" individuals
might even find difficulty getting approvals on things
like credit card applications.
If you find discrepancies in
your credit report, you should attempt to rectify the
situation as fast as possible. You can do this with the
help of a credit repair service provider or on your own.
Approach the relevant creditors to provide verification
of the particular item recorded on your report and if
they are unable to hand over proof, then you should
demand that the item be removed from your report
altogether. Making sure erroneous records are rightfully
eliminated when you fix your credit report is important
in bringing up your credit rating.
